FMS T-28 Trojan Brushless Warbird with Worm Drive Retract System.

**Use this page if you wish to select the Silver Scheme T-28**

After becoming adopted as a primary trainer by the USAF, the United States Navy and Marine Corps adopted it as well. Although the Air Force phased out the aircraft of primary pilot training by the early 1960s, continuing use only for limited training of special operations aircrews and for primary training of select foreign military personnel, the aircraft continued to be used as a primary trainer by the Navy (and by default, the Marine Corps and Coast Guard) well into the early 1980s.

The largest single concentration of this aircraft was employed by the U.S. Navy at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida in the training of student naval aviators. The T-28's service career in the U.S. military ended with the completion of the phase in of the T-34C turboprop trainer. The last U.S. Navy training squadron to fly the T-28 was VT-27, based at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, flying the last T-28 training flight in early 1984. The last T-28 in the Training Command, BuNo 137796, departed for Naval District Washington on 14 March 1984 to be displayed permanently at Naval Support Facility Anacostia, D.C. Many T-28s were subsequently sold to private civil operators, and due to their reasonable operating costs are often found flying as warbirds today.

FMS have produced the PERFECT Scale replica of this amazing aircraft, with a wingspan of 1.4 meters , it's the perfect size for everyday flying. Complete with pre-installed retracts, gear doors, navigation lighting system, flaps, ailerons, elevator, rudder and air brake system, build time will take no more than 1 hour to complete. The retracts are strong and most important worm driven insuring you they will never fail no matter what surface you are flying from, perfect for Grass Take-Offs and Landings. A special Flap and Cowl Air Brake System allows you to slow the aircraft down easily for perfect scale landings or fly-by's. Add the scale finish to the package and you have the perfect EPO warbird to add to your collection. As you can see from the video below, take off is achieved within 20 meters, giving the aircraft the ability to be flown from short length strips. With plenty of power on tap the T-28 is a dream to fly, straight clean lines, easy rolls and loops, you will never want to put the control down!.

The kit comes with a complete manual instructing easy steps for construction and the C.G. indicated within the manual is spot on!. This model with no doubt will be one of your favourite models, flown day in and day out!. Xtreme Hobby is the official FMS Sole distributor for T-28 Trojan in Australia, all spare parts are available on hand, call our staff for more details.

Detailed Review : I must have been a good lad during the year as Santa brought me an FMS T28 - Huff n Puff, the Kim Rolph-Smith aircraft. I know the full size Aircraft very well as well as Kim so was stoked to get this. The Assembly is pretty straight forward, the only thing is the tail feathers on this model are glued in, not screwed like on previous FMS models. I found the fit was a little too tight and had to do some minor trimming to get the press fit just right. Total time approx two hours from start to finish, then off to test fly the next day. Take off was straight down the runway (some call it a cricket pitch) with only a few minor trim changes. The T28 is heavier than the FMS F4U & the ME109 and it feels like it the air but the solid feel is great I was able to carry out all the maneuvers that I have come to know & love watching Kim flying the full size, with great scale likeness. After 7 minutes it was time to land, (2600 battery supplied only used 1995 milliamps) the first landing was a little hot, but still very scale like, as I did not use any flap, as the flap tended to make the nose rise up a little, so a bit of electronic mixing fixed that issue and we went for battery number 2. The T28 is a pure delight to fly and looks the real deal in the air with the Upper & lower strobe lights flashing, the landing light is very visible as is the wing tip nav lights. Landing is just like the real full size aircraft, touch down on the mains and the lower the nose wheel. What a great model to own and fly, Kim Rolph-Smith the owner of the full size is looking forward to coming over to my work and have a good look ant this little gem, if you want a realistic Scale aircraft to fly that has no vices, this is the one for you. Cheers Knoxie

Title : FMS T-28 Huff n Puff Review
Detailed Review : FMS T-28 Huff n Puff The Boys at Xtreme Hobby have some nice models coming through at the moment. One of these is the FMS 1400mm T-28,which I bought (Huff n Puff) to go with my FMS 1400mm F4U. The model is to the same standard and detail as the F4U. The assembly (no building) starts with inserting the two aluminum wing joiners into the wing tubes and joining the wings together. Next step was to connect the Aileron, Flaps, Lights and Retract wiring harnesses to the servo leads then mate the wing to the fuselage, pushing all the leads through into the fuselage body. The wings are then bolted into place using the 4 x supplied bolts. The wings feel very secure once attached to the body. Next step is to glue the horizontal and vertical stabilizers in place. I used 5 minute epoxy rather than the supplied foam safe glue. That basically completes the assembly of the model. Next step is to connect the wiring harnesses to the receiver then test that all works OK, mine did. The retracts are nice to watch, the flaps have an automatic slow speed in deploying - looks good and sounds good. When the flaps are lowered two Cowling flaps are also opened to increase drag looks cool. Overall the assembly took around 2 hours, just going slow and checking all is OK before proceeding to the next step. Well the maiden flight day dawned clear with no wind. CoG was rechecked along with correct orientation of the control surfaces. The T-28 was lined up and the throttle opened. She progressed to approximately 3/4 of the concrete cricket pitch I fly from before leaping into the air. First impressions were it feels the same as the FMS F4U I have - light and crisp to fly. A couple of circuits to determine trim (some down was required) then into Loops, Rolls and Chandelles along with some low fly by's. The T-28 gives great confidence when flying, it also looks very nice in the sky - big and chunky. Landing caught me out, the model is quite a floater and went well past where I intended to put her down - luckily I have the room that allows this but will have to watch it for next flight. I even had a spectator pull over in his car and watch. He came over after I landed and was complimentary on my flying and on the size and detail of the model and was really impressed with retracts when I showed him them working. Overall the model does what it is designed for, a realistic scale Warbird flying at scale speed with scale aerobatics. I love it. Go buy yourself one from Xtreme Hobby - well done guys.
